Introduction
In this topic you will develop skills in interviewing, assessing and selecting candidates and preparing the final report for the organisation.
The interview is often described as the least valid and reliable predictor of on-the-job performance, but it remains one of the most common forms of selection. Poor selection has its consequences which include:
- poor performance
- lower morale
- job dissatisfaction
- higher turnover
- higher absenteeism
- need for increased training
- decreased health and safety awareness
- industrial unrest
- increased cost.
As you will discover in this topic, there are a number of actions you can take before, during and after the interview to significantly improve and support the selection decision and therefore overcome most, if not all, of the above problems.
This topic is based on the training package and covers the element of Competency—Assess and select applicants. To achieve this, you must meet the performance criteria identified in the Introduction to this topic.
