What is recruitment?
RECRUITMENT is any practice or activity carried out by the organisation with the primary purpose of identifying and attracting potential employees. (DeCieri, Kramar et al 2008;259). Organisations are finding new and different ways to attract and recruit employees. ATTRACTION involves conveying a message about the organisation so that job seekers, as well as those who are not actively seeking a job will consider applying for any future vacancy because the organisation has been portrayed as a desirable employer (Dessler, Griffiths & Lloyd Walker 2007;168).

People are the most important and expensive resource an organisation has, so as managers we need to ensure we have the right people in the right jobs. This takes planning. We need to look after both current and future needs of the organisation.
Many people think of HR as merely the people who advertise the job and collect the responses. It goes deeper than that. HR needs to be involved in a wide range of activities and processes. They need to understand the mission or vision of an organisation and develop strategies, policies and procedures in order to achieve them.
Recruitment and Selection policies provide the framework for the organisation’s recruitment and selection practices. They communicate the organisation’s overall direction as well as defining the organisations objectives in relation to recruitment and selection.
However, we cannot blindly attempt recruitment without gaining approval from Department Managers, HR Managers and perhaps your CEO.
