Activity 2a - Advertising
Please note: these activities are for your own individual learning and are not to be submitted to the teachers.
Choose samples of:
- display advertisements from the news and business section
- display advertisements from the employment section of a large
- newspaper
- line advertisements from the employment section of a large newspaper
- advertisements from a local newspaper.
Glue them onto larger blank paper so that you have room to write comments beside them and so that they will store neatly as samples in your portfolio.
Look at the advertisements you collected and write comments beside each one. You should comment on:

Would the advertisement attract the attention of suitable applicants? |

Is there enough information? |
Impression of the organisation |
Is there any information about the organisation? What impression do you get? |
What did you discover-were the advertisements effective? You can learn a lot about what works as well as what doesn’t. Hopefully this exercise has raised your awareness and will help you avoid common pitfalls.
