4.4(a) Immediate evaluation
Immediate evaluation involves reviewing the process that you have just been through upon employing a new staff member. You can answer questions such as:
-
Were there any unnecessary delays in the process?
-
Are we satisfied with the quality of responses to our advertising?
-
Did our advertisement bring in too many or too few responses?
-
Would another form of advertising be more effective?
-
Were appropriate people involved in the process?
-
Was the time involved appropriate considering the importance of the position?
-
Was the interview useful?
-
Were any tests used useful (considering cost and time involved)?
-
Are we satisfied with our choice of new employee?
This evaluation should include recommendations for changes in the future.
It could point to a need to use different interview techniques, to advertise in different locations, to use more specific wording in advertisements, to spend more time defining the role, or to improve on many other parts of the process.
Immediate evaluation could be included in the selection report. However, it will not necessarily be useful in telling you if your recruitment is cost-effective and successful, as you will not yet know if the new employee chosen will be a success.
