Internet browser upgrade for users of TAFE computers

This information has been provided to help you understand and manage outdated internet browsers if you come across a computer within South Western Insitute of TAFE  (SWSi) that requires upgrading. 

Why is my browser outdated?

The version of Internet Explorer (IE) you are currently using is an old one. Browsers are constantly updated to improve your internet experience through increased speed and security.

Information on the latest version of IE is available from the Microsoft website.

What problems will I experience with an old browser?

Old versions of IE have compatibility issues with Moodle and can cause various problems that may lead to frustration and possible inability to use some functions.

Can I request for an upgrade to the current browser?

Firstly, check to see if Chrome has been installed in the computer you are using. More information about this topic.

At TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute  (SWSi), the standard build on all computers is Internet Explorer (IE) 9. If the computer that you are operating is a version below the standard build eg. IE8, you can take the following actions for an upgrade;

Note: An upgrade won't happen quickly so take note of what action you can take to find an immediate solution.   

Immediate solution

If you have logged in to Moodle and was notified that your browser is outdated, simply scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Switch to standard theme". This will allow you to access Moodle as intended but note that some of the reported issues above may continue. The following graphic is a screen sample of what to look out for.
