FRED THE COLLEGE CAT : AN ORAL HISTORY

This document is an oral history transcript. Helen Manu (Librarian, Sydney Institute, Ultimo) interviews Tim O'Connor (Security Officer, Sydney Institute, Ultimo) about Fred the College cat, a defacto member of Ultimo's Security staff. Tim's recollections cover the period 1976 to the early 1980s. The interview was conducted on 3 June, 2011.

Statement of Significance

This interview formed the basis of a display panel in the Sparkies, foodies and fashionistas exhibition which was held in The Muse, Ultimo College, between August 1-28, 2011. The exhibition celebrated Sydney Institute's 120 year history from the opening of Sydney Technical College in 1891 to early 2011.
Tim O'Connor's recollections provide the background to Fred the College cat's memorial which is located in the garden outside Building A (eastern end of Mary Ann Street frontage).
