The exhibition - Labourers, Luminaries and Lieutenants: Sydney TAFE remembers World War I was held at TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute at The Muse, Ultimo College from 20 April to 1 May 2015. It commemorates 100 years since the Anzacs landed at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915 and also remembers the staff and students of Sydney Technical College who sacrficed their lives during World War I. These exhibition panels tell the story of four women, connected to Sydney Technical College, and their involvement, directly and indirectly, in the war: Ruby Melville (student), Miss Mary Ellen Roberts (teacher and lecturer-in-charge of Women's Handicraft Department) and sisters Ada and Clara Morehead (nurses). The service personnel dossiers, images and other research information of the World War I soldiers and nurses featured in the exhbition were largely sourced from the National Archives of Australia, Australian War Memorial, Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the University of Sydney archives. http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/explore/defence/service-records/army-wwi.aspx https://www.awm.gov.au/ http://www.cwgc.org/ http://beyond1914.sydney.edu.au/ Sydney TAFE would like to give sincere thanks to Ken Stevenson, Secretary/Treasurer, Teachers’ RSL Sub-Branch RSL NSW for his major contribution in researching material for this exhibition.
